In a unanimous judgment, the UK supreme court ruled that the Scottish parliament could not hold a second independence referendum without Westminster approval. Subsequently Scottish Tories were posed the question 'what is the legal democratic route to independence?' and struggled to provide an adequate answer - because there isn't one.
