Breaking Up Isn’t Hard To Do

In the same week as the resignations of 8 Labour and 3 Conservative MPs to form 'The Independent Group', the Scottish Liberal Democrats held their not terribly well-attended spring conference. A key moment for me was UK deputy party leader Jo Swinson saying Brexit is "destroying the country" but independence would be even worse. Meanwhile, Tory Scottish Secretary David Mundell claimed Brexit would strengthen devolution.

Questionable Time

As Andrew Neil announced he would step down as presenter of BBC's This Week, the BBC themselves released a lame statement regarding the failed Ukip candidate who appeared in the Question Time audience four times. And Rachel Johnson, sister of Boris, stripped off to make the point that “Brexit leaves Britain naked”.

A Special Place In Hell

European Council President Donald Tusk said there would be “a special place in hell” for those who led the Brexit campaign with no idea of how it might work. Ross Thomson MP, accused of being uproariously drunk and "handsy" with young men in a Westminster bar, had to be escorted from the premises. And failed Ukip candidate Billy Mitchell makes his FOURTH appearance in the audience of BBC's Question Time.

Publisher Greg Moodie and author Tommy Mackay visit Queen Margaret Union in Glasgow, site of the last ever gig by The Fall in 2017, to introduce their fan's-eye-view book, '40 Odd Years Of The Fall', now in its second edition.

Aim Low Sweet Patriot

Labour's Alex Rowley offered his party's support for the SNP budget in return for additional funding for Scottish councils - and was promptly chastised by branch manager Richard Leonard. Eventually it was the Greens who secured an agreement and helped the budget pass as Willie Rennie, Murdo Fraser and James Kelly stood around like diddies.

The Empire’s Last Stand

Tory MP/imbecile Mark Francois dragged up World War II in response to the German CEO of Airbus saying Brexiteers were "mad" to think his company would never leave the UK. Meanwhile, Jacob Rees-Mogg suggested the Queen could suspend parliament if things didn't go his way, and former Brexit secretary David Davis landed a £60,000 job as "external adviser" with JCB for just 20 hours of work a year.

Murdo Fraser tells the church to stay out of politics, Willie Rennie thinks Nicola Sturgeon has the power to call a people's vote on Brexit, and Richard Leonard congratulates himself after the SNP-led Glasgow City Council settled a long running equal pay dispute - one that Leonard's party spent £2.5 million trying to fight.
