The Conservatives began this election campaign with a poll lead of well over 20 points. The latest poll showed this has dropped to just 3. So I imagine Theresa May would be all too happy to drop the whole thing.

The Scottish branch of the Conservative Party launched their manifesto which included two items already firmly in place in Scotland - winter fuel payments for the elderly and free prescriptions. They might as well have said 'vote for us and we won't take away all these things other parties came up with'. Also, Kezia Dugdale wasted a huge amount of time at First Minister's Questions complaining about Wings Over Scotland.

In the May 4th Scottish council elections, the SNP were the outright winners, increasing their share of the vote, number of seats and margin over the second-place Tories. But if you'd been listening to the Scottish press, you'd assume it was a massive defeat and that the Tories had swept all before them. The Tories ran on a 'No second referendum' platform and lost - raising the question 'will they accept the verdict?'

Former Better Together campaign director Blair McDougall and former MP for Glasgow South West Ian Davidson both announced they would be standing in the 2017 General Election. Ian Murray, defending his Edinburgh South seat, sent a letter to constituents saying there was a list of achievements on the reverse side. Unfortunately, the reverse side was blank. Meanwhile, a series of packages said to contain anthrax were sent to various SNP targets with the words "SNP out. Tories in".

Ian Murray suggested that tactical voting for the Tories was advisable to keep the SNP out in Scotland, so all-consuming is his hatred of the Nats. He also said he doesn't believe his own party leader Jeremy Corbyn can win a General Election, so it was interesting when the MP for Edinburgh South launched his campaign with "JC4PM" cupcakes..
