Anas Sarwar whipped his MSPs to support the gender recognition bill. It passed but was then blocked by Alister Jack's section 35 on behalf of the Westminster government. Ian Murray said something about if only the two parliaments could get on, which prompted scorn from Monica Lennon. Keir Starmer stepped in and said he was overruling his Scottish branch and dictating the party's policy on gender reform, which consisted of not challenging the UK block. At that point, Anas Sarwar said this was the right decision and called for a “grown-up approach”.

The UK Government issued a Section 35 order to block the Holyrood's Gender Recognition Reform bill. Scottish Secretary Alister Jack turned down an invitation to provide evidence at a Holyrood committee on the decision, saying that his job was "constitutional".

He predicted that the coronation of King Charles would bring the country together. The day before, he had helped out at a homeless shelter and asked a homeless man if he worked in business. Prior to that, he suggested that the word ‘British’ can be used as shorthand for ‘English’.

Fifteen years after the global financial crisis, chancellor Jeremy Hunt announced a raft of major reforms to the financial sector. Essentially undoing the regulation that was introduced to prevent the sort of risk-taking that led to banks having to be bailed out, it appeared to be an admission that the UK economy still relied heavily on financial services and pointed to an inevitable future crash.

Despite claiming that the so-called "vow" of 2014 had already been delivered, former politician Gordon Brown has continued to reappear regularly to promise Scotland 'federalism', 'home rule', 'devo max', 'everything short of independence'. So when Keir Starmer announced a new constitutional blueprint that will "radically shake up devolution", devised by Gordon Brown, we can be sure it's not going far. Meanwhile Nigel Farage said Starmer's views on immigration put him to the right of the Tories, and, in a largely unreported story, staff at the Faslane nuclear base had to be moved following a "serious radiation breach".

In a unanimous judgment, the UK supreme court ruled that the Scottish parliament could not hold a second independence referendum without Westminster approval. Subsequently Scottish Tories were posed the question 'what is the legal democratic route to independence?' and struggled to provide an adequate answer - because there isn't one.
