It Started With A Cake
January 31, 2022
The excuses for No 10 parties kept coming. An ally of the Prime Minister said that a birthday gathering for him was not premeditated and that he was simply "ambushed with a cake”. When the SNP's Westminster leader Ian Blackford said in parliament, "The impending National Insurance tax hike hangs like a guillotine while they eat cake”, Johnson replied, "I don’t know who has been eating more cake". Meanwhile the long-awaited Sue Gray report into partygate was held back when the Metropolitan Police said they would be investigating after all, and that it should therefore contain minimal reference to the more serious matters. No, I don't understand either.
