A Salmond In The Works

In a surprise move, former First Minister Alex Salmond announced he would be fronting the newly-formed Alba party and standing in May's election as a list-only choice. Reaction in the independence movement was divided, but politicians were universally critical. The announcement somewhat overshadowed Willie Rennie's beach-based campaign launch, photographed in a giant yellow deckchair.

Desperate Measures

Michael Gove's beleaguered 'union unit', which had struggled to retain key staff and contained no actual Scots, was quietly ditched in favour of an 'all-star' team of heavy hitters - Gove, Johnson, Sunak and... um Alister Jack.

Murdo Fraser, Jackie Baillie, Alex Cole-Hamilton and Margaret Mitchell were all part of the committee looking into the Scottish Government’s handling of harassment complaints against Alex Salmond. Cole-Hamilton had previously been caught on camera mouthing the words 'f*ck you, Maree' to SNP MSP Maree Todd. Lord Forsyth tried to tell a Question Time audience that an independent Scotland would never have coped with the Covid crisis; Andrew Bowie was told by journalist George Monbiot that he was part of the corrupt dysfunctional UK government, which the Tory pipsqueak took on the chin; and Douglas Ross was still everywhere being his usual unimaginative self.

The Johnson’s Johnson

After 20 consecutive polls showed a majority supporting independence, the self-proclaimed 'Minister for the Union' Boris Johnson made another pointless trip to Scotland, ensuring it would be at least 21. This time First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said he should stay away as the lockdown trip was "non-essential".
