Both Gordon Brown and Ruth Davidson compared supporters of Scottish independence to the American fascist rioters who stormed Capitol Hill, killing five people. One branch of the Scottish Conservatives, whose leader is Douglas Ross, compared the SNP to the Nazis and the Chinese Communist Party. Oh, and today is Burns Day.

After three years, Richard Leonard announced he would stand down as the leader of Scottish Labour. The party has had six leaders in the thirteen years since the SNP have been in power. Some might say that's quite a lot.

A more undignified end to Trump's presidency would be hard to imagine. Having incited his supporters to riot, he then tweeted that he would not be attending Joe Biden's January 20th inauguration, before being banned from all social media platforms. Meanwhile it was reported that a flight was scheduled to take Trump to Scotland on the same day. A second impeachment is still a possibility.

Brexit became official at 11pm on December 31st 2020. It was nigh on impossible for anyone to find anything positive to say about this supreme folly and I decided instead to express how the majority in Scotland now feel about the United Kingdom.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock shed a tear on live TV when announcing that the first man to receive a Covid vaccine was named William Shakespeare. Boris Johnson appeared more unkempt and shambolic than usual at a meeting with President of the European Commission Ursula Von Der Leyen. Just two weeks to go until the UK crashes out of Europe, and still no deal in sight.

Education Secretary Gavin Williamson claimed the UK was the first country to approve a Covid vaccine because it has “much better” scientists than France, Belgium or the US and is "a much better country than every single one of them”. The European Medicines Agency suggested the UK had made speed a priority so it could be the first to roll out the jab.

Michael Gove's newly formed "Unionist attack unit" requested that vials of the Oxford University coronavirus vaccine be labelled with Union Jacks. The unit has been tasked with fighting calls for Scottish independence and clearly they believe flags are the answer.
