Most notable was Faiza Shaheen, the candidate for Chingford and Woodford Green, who was deselected for liking a tweet that included a satirical video by Jon Stewart suggesting that anyone questioning Israel's actions would be shouted down.

Rishi Sunak's election campaign got off to a very unfortunate start. First, he announced it in the rain without an umbrella while a protester played 'Things can only get better'. Visiting a factory in Wales he asked “So are you looking forward to all the football?” (Wales did not qualify for Euro 2024.) Then he was asked questions by two people who turned out to be Conservative councillors. Then he travelled to Belfast visiting the Titanic Quarter and was asked whether he was captaining a sinking ship. After two days, he announced he would be taking a day off.

The Scottish Greens expelled 13 party members for signing a declaration which said “sex is a biological reality” and called for trans women to be banned from women’s changing rooms. A spokesperson said: “The welfare of all our members is our primary concern. The [Conduct and Complaints Committee] process found that the members were in breach of our code of conduct."

Rishi Sunak vowed to end what he called the UK's ‘sick note culture’ with a set of benefit reforms in another blatant move to punish the sick. Amongst the measures was "shifting the responsibility for sick note assessment from GPs and giving it to private companies".

On Friday, BBC's Reporting Scotland opened with presenter Sally Magnusson saying,"The First Minister has told BBC News there's evidence to suggest that war crimes have been committed in Gaza." Behind her, the main picture featured Labour's Scottish branch manager Anas Sarwar instead of First Minister Humza Yousaf. Whether casual racism, subliminal messaging or rank incompetence, the state broadcaster did not look good.

But Tory MSP Murdo Fraser was already ahead of the game, threatening legal action against Police Scotland after the force logged something he said on Twitter as a "hate incident". ("Choosing to identify as ‘non-binary’ is as valid as choosing to identify as a cat.")
