Mein GB News

When three children were murdered by a 17-year-old in Southport, the English Defence League, reacting to false information, rioted, targetting a mosque. The following day, GB News, attempting to further whip up the far right, created an online poll: 'Are the Left elite to blame for the violence in Southport as they continue to smear and ignore angry communities? VOTE NOW.'

Labour GPT

In their first three weeks in power, Labour voted to keep the two-child cap, ditched their plans to cut energy bills by £300, and rowed back on abolishing the House of Lords, their lame justifications for each sounding more and more as if generated by artificial intelligence.

Blame Scotland

A report from the UK-wide covid inquiry found that the UK Government and all the devolved nations were inadequately prepared for the pandemic. This fuelled headlines in the Scottish press such as "Scotland not properly prepared for pandemic" and "Scottish Government accused of ‘corporate homicide’". It also said that Nicola Sturgeon's administration had adopted flawed UK government resilience plans.

In 2022, the Labour conference passed a resolution calling for the introduction of proportional representation at Westminster elections. But by 2024, with the likelihood of election victory, they dropped the policy. Anas Sarwar said: "We fought the election campaign and we won the election campaign. We don't make the rules, we played the election by the rules." Sarwar also had to hide all the England flags lining Downing Street on a tweet claiming that Scotland is "at the heart of a Labour government".

The LibDem Template

The Scottish Liberal Democrats appeared to have been caught out copying and pasting English policy. A campaign flyer claimed "the SNP have let water companies get away with dumping sewage into or (sic) rivers, lochs and sea for too long. The Lib Dems will fight to protect our environment and punish rule breaking water companies." Scottish Water is publicly owned. Elsewhere they claimed "sewage was dumped into Scottish rivers for 183,832 hours last year", a meaningless statistic given there are only 8760 hours in a year.

As a visual artist and a musician, I've always been interested in ways of combining paintings with sound. Tape recorders have been a lifelong obsession so it was natural for me to want to incorporate them in artworks. Here are a few examples.

OCEAN

When you turn the key and open the door, the tape on the inside plays the sound of waves - loud - from a speaker on the other side of the room. Inside the central Vedic Anahata or heart chakra (later appropriated as the star of David - much later), it says 'you are here'.

THE BIG DIPPER

When you activate the switch, the tape loop runs across the surface of the painting, making the stars twirl and playing the sound of children in a playground. So it could be a constellation or a fairground ride.

BIG DIPPER 2

This version is ten feet high and changes the dipper shape into a yin and yang symbol.

TRUNK

This one has headphones attached and when you switch it on, you'll hear somebody whispering some mystical words - in one ear only.

SONS OF THE DESERT

This one has the working pieces of a cassette player submerged in sand. Press the switch and the tape loop plays a Lawrence of Arabia type tune I wrote and recorded.

THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH

This also has the guts of a tape player amongst toys and model scenery. Again, press the switch and the tape loop plays a funhouse/circus type of tune of my own creation. It was battery operated.

Sound Paintings

A selection of my paintings and constructions which include tape loops.

The Right Honourable Fiona Bruce

Question Time host Fiona Bruce was slated for trying to shut down John Swinney after saying that Brexit is the reason the UK economy has tanked. Bruce interrupted the First Minister around 20 times during his half-hour interview. Elsewhere it seemed that her opinions mattered more to her than any of the party leaders.
